Revising our chemo protocol to include more specific directions for spill cleanup. Can anyone recommend a specific respirator and where they ordered them from? Our facility fit tests for N95 masks but from what I've found in this forum and other articles it wouldn't protect against chemo vapors if dealing with spill & staff are not knowledgable about other respirators.

Have there been any updates on this topic? We too are looking to add a respirator for spills outside of our BSC and were wondering what people had been using. We didn't think the N95 would cut it. Thouhgts?

I recently spoke with 3M rep and they recommend a full or half facepiece respirator (their 6000 Series) combined with a multi-gas/organic vapor/and particulate cartridge #60926. THese are very reasonably priced and much cheaper than a PAPR. I'm considering purchasing not only for spills outside BSC but for techs to wear when cleaning and decontaminating the BSC.

We actually decided on several PAPRs that would be located in key locations like the pharmacy and on several chemo units and can easily be used by multiple employees. Our deciding factor was that the PAPRs do NOT require fit testing, which was a huge plus for us and multiple people can use the product. The other respirators require fit testing and we have too many employees which made this impractical. The cartridges have to be replaced at certain intervals regardless if they are used or not so it seemed like a pain.

We will also be purchasing the 6000 series half facepiece respirators with cartridge #60926. 3M rep was very helpful with choosing products. We can't use our particular PAPR because it doesn't protect against vapors. We also purchased an adaptor kit for fit testing through 3M also. We are a rural 25 bed hospital so will just be testing a small group of housekeeping who respond to spills, RPhs, and chemo RNs.
