Growth in a Media Fill

Has anyone ever had a growth in a staff's Media-Fill test before? If so, what did it look like?

There is something in one that looks like a tiny hair. I tried to find images on Google of what a growth looks like but I had no luck. I know that any growth is a fail but I wanted to know if it is a growth or not.

Thanks,

Re: Growth in a Media Fill

Hi Simone,

A positive media fill can present in different ways, overall cloudiness, hair-like particles or precipitate (snowflakes) at the bottom of the bag.  Did you inspect the bag prior to use?  Based on your description, it is possible that this hair-like item could be contamination.  Who is the manufacturer of the media bag?  Thanks.

Re: Growth in a Media Fill

Eric,

Thank you for your response. We use Valiteq Lab Safety Corporation for our Media-fill test kits. The bag is a Sterile Empty bag from Baxter. I did inspect the bag however I did not inspect the media fill kit items.

Thanks,
