Re: Infection Control Risk Assessment Webinar

Here are some questions from our live presentation:

Q: Shouldn't we have the federal health people's 2020 goal of 90% HCP vaccination on our IC Plans?

Q: When completing the risk assessment worksheets, who did you mention should be the people completing them to establish the scores?

Q: As an infection preventionist, how do you know the correct method of cleaning and disinfecting scopes?

Q: After endoscopes are properly cleaned and receive high level disinfection, they are hung as noted, but is it acceptable to handle these scopes with bare hands?

Q: Our home health staff has recently gone to iPads in the patient homes, the manufacturer does not recommend disinfecting the screens, what would your recommendation for cleaning be, would damp wiping be appropriate?

Q: When completing the risk assessment worksheets, who did you mention should be the people completing them to establish the scores?

A. My recommendation is to use the people on the Infection Prevention/Control Committee including physicians, nurses, and other clinicians.  It was also suggested that patients and families could complete these to get their ideas.

Q: As an infection preventionist, how do you know the correct method of cleaning and disinfecting scopes?

A. Follow the manutacturer's directions.  There are also "Standards of Infection Control in Reprocessing of Flexible Gastrointestinal Endoscopes"  written by the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA) that is helpful and only 23 pages long. Smiley Happy

Re: Infection Control Risk Assessment Webinar

Q: Our home health staff has recently gone to iPads in the patient homes, the manufacturer does not recommend disinfecting the screens, what would your recommendation for cleaning be, would damp wiping be appropriate?

A. Clean the screens according to the manufacturer.  It would not need disinfecting.  Handwashing after using the screen should be sufficient.
