Are there any resources available answering rather or not cleaning and disinfecting of hoods and rooms should be completed if the room is not in use? For example, one of our buffer rooms is only for hazardous drug compounding and is not used daily like our other buffer rooms therefore we were wondering if we should still clean it on a minimum daily basis? Is Environmental Sampling the best approach to provide proof that the room stays clean when not in use?

My understanding from one of the industry leaders is that the PEC's do not need to be cleaned and disinfected if they are not in use (if air requirements have been maintained and the PEC has remained on). However, the PEC should be cleaned and disinfected before using it.

You won't know unless you test, even then it was tested for the moment. a day after testing there could have been a contamination. How are you aware of a momentary lapse in your pressure system - say 2:07 am?
